Design #252 – 35m (115′) Sailing Catamaran 

And now for something completely different!!

Definitely a case of “form follows function” with this design. Designed for a private owner, with extreme game-fishing in remote locations in mind, the mothership carries a 9.7m twinjet game-fishing Powercat in a dedicated tender bay aft. Additionally there are other “toys” and water-based activities (Diving, SUP and Kayaking) catered for.

To my mind a sailing ship with an auxiliary engine(s) is the “original” form of hybrid vessel. This vessel takes “hybrid” to another level with 60x 440W Solar panels on the stretched roof and an E-Motion electric drive system installed.

The accommodation layout allows for 8 to 10 crew forward including a tour guide/scientist and the owner’s party ranges from 6 to 10 if guests/kid’s are packed in dormitory style. In fact this vessel will operate more along the lines of a fishing lodge than a superyacht.

Primarily, this is a full-time sailing catamaran and with the aim of reducing rig loads and making sail-handling easier we have opted for the ketch rig. Aside from the mizzen mast halyards, all sail controls go forward to the sailing cockpit at the base of the main mast.

As with all of our Cat designs we have hull subdivision (watertight bulkheads) separating the forepeaks and engine spaces from the accommodation space. Further our normal fixed keel/skeg configuration is right at home here. Of course the hull will be ruggedly constructed from marine-grade aluminium alloy.
