DE VILLIERS MARINE DESIGN TEAM
David de Villiers (B Mech Eng, MRINA) – Director
Since high school in Cape Town, David has been passionately involved with sailboat racing and cruising. Day-sailing soon led to longer coastal passages and ultimately to trans-Atlantics and other blue water passages. In total he has logged over 50000 nautical miles, mostly under sail.
David started working in the marine design field (yacht design offices, commercial shipyards, etc) as early as his university days in the mid 1980’s. An eye for detail and aesthetics combined with engineering practicality and a passion for the ocean meant that his Mechanical Engineering studies were simply a means to an end. Designing boats of all types was always the ultimate goal!
De Villiers Design Ltd was started in mid-2000, just a few short years after relocating to New Zealand. David is now working from his base in the beautiful Bay of Islands. Most days when David is not involved with the intricacies of a new design, he can be found out on the water, paddling a SUP or on his outrigger canoe.
