9.0 metre Forward Console Police RHIB – Design #079

Midway through 2007 we were approached by Kanter Marine, Ontario, Canada to partner them in a tender process for the design and construction of an open, military-style RHIB capable of high speeds and rapid deployment of police personnel to “trouble-spots”.

Our joint bid was successful and we were awarded the project. Although the timeline was tight Kanter Marine did an admirable job building 9 vessels over a 10 month period.

It was immensely challenging to comply with the specific requirements needed for these vessels to perform satisfactorily. Briefly some of these are as follows:

  • Crew of 11 personnel, fully kitted out at over 100 kg per person.
  • Additional payload of up to 300 kg.
  • Shock-mitigating seating for all personnel on board.
  • Minimum top speed of 45 knots with full load of gear, fuel and personnel.
  • Endurance capability at top speed of at least 2 hours.
  • Range of 160 nautical miles at planing speed.
  • Beaching capability.
  • Draft restriction of 1 metre.
  • Compliance with ISO requirements for Stability, Buoyancy, Load-capacity, Down-flooding, Construction and Quick-draining Cockpits etc.
