9.0 metre QRV RHIB – Design #038
The RHIB that started it all!! Our first RHIB design is still a cracking good boat. Commissioned in 2003, superbly built by AMF Boats in Tauranga and launched in 2004 this vessel is still in operation 18 years later by the Tairua-Pauanui Coastguard, Coromandel NZ.
Due to the waterjet propulsion, the draft of this vessel is less than 450mm making her ideal for use where the harbour has a bar entrance. Like all our RHIB designs that followed, the hull is built from marine-grade aluminium.
In terms of layout there is an open-back hardtop with standing bolsters that allows for 4 to 6 crew. There is a cuddy cabin forward with storage lockers as well as a seat/berth. The aft deck area necessarily contains the raised engine box which has turned out to be a handy place to sit plus there walk-around access alongside the engine bay.
Over the years this design has been reconfigured for sterndrive and outboard propulsion and examples are in operation as rescue vessels in the Middle East and elsewhere.
