DVD 52 foot Aluminium Cruising Catamaran – Design #163 / #183
This newly completed design is the smallest in our range of Aluminium Sailing Cats. The philosophy and basic features of this design are firmly rooted in our earlier, successful 62ft Alloy Ketch Cat design which has covered over 100000 nautical miles as an expedition charter boat and is currently (January 2019) well into her second circumnavigation, with original owners and taking guests aboard.
The 525 Cat is obviously smaller and more manageable than the 62ft older sister. We have developed 2 versions of the design, a ketch rig as well as a sloop rig. Earlier published articles for this design contained preliminary specifications and numbers which reflect a more performance-oriented optimisation for the design. In developing the full construction plans we have chosen to accentuate capacities and features which will have more mainstream appeal to a broader spectrum of cruising sailors.
Make no mistake this design is still well above average in terms of sailing performance and the cruising sailor will be delighted by the speeds achievable. However, we believe that scintillating performance will be achievable for the sailor willing to compromise in some areas and therefore we welcome enquiries from those wishing to maximise the possibilities for this design.
Having said all that what we have here is a durable, rugged alloy cruising boat with inherent safety features (6 watertight compartments, exceptional underwing clearance, easily-managed ketch rig etc) which will appeal to most anyone wanting to cruise far and wide.
Our plansets are carefully detailed and together with the comprehensive build kit information (assembly drawings and nested CNC cutting files) no yard in any corner of this planet should have any trouble putting together your perfect cruising home.
You can download our brochure with lots of images and information for printing or discussing with your partner, friends or preferred builder. On our facebook page we have several ‘360-images’ available. With these interactive images you can literally look around on board! We hope you enjoy that and don’t forget to like our page so you stay updated with the latest information. A next step can be purchasing studyplans which will provide sufficient technical information for builders and suppliers to make cost estimates. Also we are available to discuss any of the questions you have. Please contact us for further information on this design. For example we have worked with alloy boatbuilders just about everywhere (except South America) and we can certainly offer advice in this area. Study and stock plan set prices are on our Stock Plans page.
